NEW STATUE FOR WEST CANADIAN PRINT & DESIGN

Michael Perks in front of The Prime Meridian

Over the winter we had an exciting commission from art collector, philanthropist, business giant George Brookman.   Driving by DaDe Art & Design Lab in Inglewood Mr. Brookman saw another statue by Michael (The Cube).  Intrigued he inquired at the gallery and ended up commissioning Michael to make a statue for the front of his new West Canadian building at the east end of 9th Ave SE.  Rumor had it that Mr. Brookman actually canceled a previous commission with an American artist to opt for Michael’s work instead.

The statue is The Prime Meridian and is approximately 13ft high by 7ft wide.  We’re guessing it weighs in at close to 900lbs and had to be built on-site.  It was a balmy -26C when we installed it on Monday, January 17th.  If you look closely at the pieces in the cube you will see tree branches, flames, faces and numerous other things.  Stare at it all you want and new images will continue to pop out at you.  Oh and the best part is that the whole thing spins!
